Run various diagnostics, including Lenovo's 'Test a Device' and 'Device manager alerts', all of which highlight no problem with the devices.
Checked for updated sound card drivers.
Uninstalled Skype, rebooted, reinstalled Skype.
I have tried the following actions, all without success, in an attempt to overcome the problem: However, when I use a Plantronics Voyager 520 headset with USB dongle, Skype works perfectly every time. I then upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate and since the upgrade Skype has crashed when using the on-board speakers and mic, giving with the message: "Can't access your sound card". I used Skype for a week, using the on-board speakers and mic, without difficulty. I reently acquired a T420 with Windows 7 Professional installed.
